Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

A NEW musical The Prince of Egypt, based on the acclaimed DreamWorks Animation film of the same name, will receive its West End premiere at the Dominion Theatre in February 2020.

The Prince of Egypt dramatises the story of Moses. Born a child of Israel, Moses grew up to become an Egyptian prince and later led the Israelites out of Egypt, as told in the Book of Exodus.

The film featured the voices of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum and Patrick Stewart and was subsequently nominated for 15 awards, winning Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The world premiere of The Prince of Egypt was performed in 2017 at TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley, California, and the following year, the European premiere was staged at the Fredericia Teater in Denmark.

Featuring the Academy Award®-winning, chart-topping song When You Believe, The Prince of Egypt is an exhilarating, powerful and joyous celebration of belief and the human spirit.

The Prince of Egypt has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), an original book by Philip LaZebnik, choreography by Sean Cheesman and direction by Scott Schwartz. Further details on casting and a full creative team will be announced in due course.

Dates: February 5 to September 12, 2020, with tickets on sale from Monday, June 3, 2019.

Also at the Dominion Theatre: BIG the Musical, starring Jay McGuinness (September 6 to November 2) and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, starring Danny Mac (November 15, 2019 to January 4, 2020).
