Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

AWARD-winning Tango Fire is returning for its seventh season at The Peacock – from Tuesday, January 29 to Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Showcasing the history of authentic Argentine tango from its origins to contemporary interpretations, Tango Fire stars a cast of superb tango dancers, including the internationally renowned Germán Cornejo and Gisela Galeassi, who are crafting a special new solo for this production.

Originating from the streets and tango houses of Buenos Aires, Tango Fire has achieved extraordinary success, touring internationally over the past 14 years to critical acclaim. Cornejo’s choreography and vision, coupled with Galeassi’s passion, elegance and grace, makes Tango Fire a fervent experience through the history, various styles and moods of Argentine tango.

Six couples, including former World Tango champions, showcase unique flair through their interpretation of tango, enjoying the creative freedom to craft their own solos.

Dance couples for Tango Fire are: Germán Cornejo and Gisela Galeassi, Sebastian Alvarez and Victoria Saudelli, Marcos Esteban Roberts and Louise Junqueira Malucelli, Ezequiel Lopez and Camila Alegre, Julio Jose Seffino and Carla Dominguez, and Esteban Simon and Marilu Leopardi.

The company’s resident music group Tango Fuego Quartet enhance the production by playing the music of the great tango masters live – including Piazzolla, Pugliese and Gardel. Skilled virtuosos on piano, bandoneon, contrabass and violin enrich the sensuality of Tango Fire.

Honed and refined by Cornejo’s expert choreographic skill, Tango Fire encompasses the art and exhilarating passion of Argentine tango, led by the leading tango dance company.
