Casting announced for Garry at the White Bear Theatre

Casting news

CASTING has been announced for Sophie Treadwell’s tense psychological thriller Garry, which runs at the White Bear Theatre from June 4 to June 22, 2019.

Garry is set in 1954 in New York. An unemployed man is lured from a bar to the hotel room of a “prominent citizen” with the promise of a job. A sexual assault is attempted which has devasting consequences for newlyweds Wilma and Garry. When a reporter turns up looking for a scoop, events build to a shattering conclusion.

The title role of Garry, a young New York hoodlum with a troubled past, is played by RADA graduate Thomas Martin. His theatre work includes seasons at the Storyhouse in Chester.

Playing Wilma, a girl from Oklahoma and Garry’s new wife, is Phebe Alys, who was last seen at the White Bear as Amor in The Unnatural Tragedy. She is currently filming Harlots for Sky TV.

Also in The Unnatural Tragedy was Alice Welby. In Garry, she takes on the part of Peggy, a tough New York prostitute and Garry’s sister. She was Juliet in Graham Watts’ Romeo and Juliet.

Completing the cast is Matthew Wellard playing Dave, a Texan newspaper reporter out to get a scoop. His work includes The Miser at the Watermill Theatre and Boy at the Almeida.

Garry is directed by Graham Watts and has set and costume design by Emma Boomer, who designed Di, Viv and Rose at the White Bear earlier this year, and lighting by Italian Lighting Designer Paola Capuano.
