Dreamgirls - further casting announced for the role of Effie White

Casting news

FURTHER casting has been announced for the the role of Effie White in the UK premiere of Dreamgirls, which runs at the Savoy Theatre from November 19, 2016 to March 11, 2017.

Rotating the role on Wednesday evenings will be Ruth Brown and Karen Mav. They join previously announced Amber Riley, who will play the role of Effie White for seven of the eight performances each week.

Under the mentorship of Tom Jones, Brown reached the semi-finals in the first series of The Voice, while Mav was a contestant on the 2015 series of The X Factor.

Producer Sonia Friedman said: “This is fantastic news for the production. Casting Amber Riley is of course thrilling as she is the most extraordinary talent to star in our show, but now to be able to announce that Ruth Brown and Karen Mav will be joining the show, to cover Amber and share performances on the night that Amber will not be on is just fantastic.”

Further casting is still to be announced.

Inspired by R&B music acts in 1960s America, Dreamgirls transports audiences to a revolutionary time in American music history; charting the tumultuous journey of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called ‘The Dreams’, as they learn the hard lesson that show business is as tough as it is fabulous.
