Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

KIRSTY Housley directs what is described as a deliciously gruesome selection from Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales in an acclaimed adaptation by Philip Wilson. Re-told and re-worked for the whole family, it runs at the Unicorn Theatre from Tuesday, November 13, 2018 to Sunday, January 6, 2019.

Enter a perilous world of murderous step-mothers, careless parents and fearless children. Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales are classic fairy tales, distilled from centuries of storytelling, timeworn but honed for the next generation to discover anew.

This collection of stories, some familiar and some not so, takes audiences to the very heart of imagination and speaks of the things it finds there, fear, courage, compassion and wonder.

Kirsty Housley creates a rich and potent world alive with the strange and the familiar in this wickedly gleeful new show, carved from these much loved stories which have enchanted children and adults alike for generations.

Kirsty Housley is an award-winning theatre maker whose credits include Misty (Bush Theatre and Trafalgar Studios), Myth (RSC), The Believers are But Brothers (Bush Theatre), A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer (National Theatre) and The Encounter (Complicite). Housley was the recipient of the Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award.

A versatile ensemble cast includes Vera Chok, David Emmings, Rachel Hosker, Giulia Innocenti, Enoch Lwanga, Bryony Miller, and Guy Rhys.
