Romola Garai to star in The Writer at the Almeida Theatre

ROMOLA Garai is to star in the world premiere of The Writer. Written by Ella Hickson and directed by Blanche McIntyre, it runs at the Almeida Theatre from April 14 to May 26, 2018.

I want awe. I feel like I need blood. All the time. And anything less than that makes me feel desperate. It makes me feel like I want to die.

She wants to change the shape of the world. But a new way of thinking needs a new story. How can she make herself heard?

Romola Garai’s previous theatre credits include Queen Anne (Theatre Royal Haymarket); Measure for Measure (Young Vic); Indian Ink (Roundabout Theatre, New York); The Village Bike (Royal Court); Three Sisters (Lyric Hammersmith); King Lear and The Seagull (RSC) and Calico (Duke of York’s Theatre).

Her screen work includes The Miniaturist, Born to Kill, Churchill’s Secret, Legacy, The Hour, Crimson Petal and the White, Emma, Mary Bryant, Daniel Deronda, Perfect, Attachments and The Last of the Blonde Bombshells (TV); Suffragette, Dominion, The Last Days on Mars, Having You, Junkhearts, One Day, Glorious 39, The Other Man, Atonement, Angel, Amazing Grace, As You Like It, Vanity Fair, Havana Nights, Nicholas Nickleby and I Capture the Castle (film).

Ella Hickson returns to the Almeida following the success of Oil in 2016.

The Writer is designed by Anna Fleischle, with lighting by Richard Howell, sound by Emma Laxton and movement by Sasha Milavic Davies. Further casting will be announced in due course.

Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke continues at the Almeida until April 7, 2018.
