Story: Jack Foley
CRACATILLA are to release their second single, the double A-side
Youve Got It All and Everyman, on June 30.
James Lewis (vocals, guitar), Dave Penswick (bass/ vocals) and
Louis Fitzpatrick (drums/ vocals) have all known each other since
their school days in Liverpool.
Through hanging around together, inbetween lessons, playing their
guitars and skiving off school to sit in the field behind Louis
house and write songs, a collection of over 30 songs were penned
before the band had even properly formed.
The name Cracatilla was discovered many years later, after James
watched a programme about the volcano Krakatoa, and
misheard the name.

As a volcano which has the potential to throw up enough dust
to block out the sun, the band have taken it on as their own mantra
of being on top of your game, feeling unstoppable.
The band gigged around the city until they were discovered by
a local Liverpuddlian label, Honey Records.
What Do I Know, Cracatillas debut single, was released
in August 2002, and provided a perfect example of their summery
vibes and mellow tones.
The band then spent the rest of the year locked away in the studio
working on new material and honing their craft.
Drawing on all forms of music influences, Youve Got
It All and Everyman show another two sides to Cracatillas
many talents.
Having recorded the tracks in Liverpool with producer, Gary Wilkinson,
whose previous credits include Badly Drawn Boys The Hour
of The Bewilderbeast, the single will be released through
new London based independent label, Industry of Cool.
IndieLondon would urge you to go out there and find it, particularly
as links to the likes of Amazon and HMV seem to be in short supply
at the moment.
