Story: Jack Foley
US RAPPER, Kanye West, has been credited with delivering the
best album of 2004 by HMV, in a round-up of the UK's end-of-year
polls.
His album, The College Dropout, topped HMV's Poll of
Polls, which was compiled from the end-of-year lists produced
by every major magazine, newspaper and guide to the music industry
over the past 12 months.
It follows last year's winner, OutKast's Speakerboxx/The
Love Below, as the best long-player of 2004.

The Scissor Sisters and Franz
Ferdinand came second and third in the list, while The Streets
and Nick Cave
and the Bad Seeds completed the top five with their latest
efforts.
The accolade completes a great year for rapper and producer,
West, who has also been nominated for 10 Grammy awards.
Also featured prominently in the poll were albums from ex-Beach
Boys member, Brian Wilson, whose album, Smile, came in
eighth, having taken 37 years to be completed.
Seventy-year-old country legend, Loretta Lynn, came in seventh
spot with Van Lear Rose, an album produced by Jack White,
of The White Stripes fame.
And Morrissey, The
Killers and U2 also
made it into the list's top 20.
