The IndieLondon Scale of One to TwoThe indielondon scale of 1 to 2 cuts out the middle man. No shades of grey with this one. Basically, you like it (2) or you don't (1). There's nothing more infuriating than being told something's "awwllright, I s'pose… oooh, about 3 out of 5… probably". Really, what does that mean? It means you're not sure WHAT you think. Oh thank you, Mr Critic, for your decisiveness. So, now I don't know whether to see it or avoid it like the latest Arnie actioner. With this scale, it's MAKE YOUR MIND UP TIME!! If you're being honest, everyone essentially DOES or DOESN'T like a film. No more fence sitting… Naturally, part of the beauty of the scale is the extremity of it: Citizen Kane…? Nuff said. Now that's a 2 if ever there was one. But hey, so's Caddyshack! On the other hand, Vanilla Sky was a 1, nestling alongside other 1's such as Bo Derek-starring Bolero! You get the idea… Ian Sparham |
