FORMER IndieLondon theatre luminary, Paul Nelson (now
sadly deceased), once wrote that 'the tiny Union [Theatre]
has once again stuck two fingers up at the West End'.
A long-time champion of the quality at The Union,
in Southwark, Paul would probably have looked forward to the latest
Christmas show with relish.
For once again, the creative team intend to do just that - provide
a viable and exciting alternatives to the West End.
The Christmas show, this year, is Pippin, a
jovial character who, according to the PR, was born 'to be King'.

But he has a problem – boredom!
Tired of books, war and love, he sets out on a magical journey
in his quest for true happiness.
The producers of the show promise that a brilliant score matches
a wickedly funny tale to ensure a charming evening's entertainment.
Stephen Schwartz’s songs for Pippin are the most singable
and enchanting of anything ever run on Broadway……
where, incidentally, it ran for five years.
Sasha Regan and Ben De Wynter will direct Pippin as
their third piece working together.
In Cabaret they transported
the audience to a seedy, smoky Berlin nightclub; The
Wild Party invited people to soak up the atmosphere of a gin
fuelled 1920’s soiree.
This year, The Union will be transformed into a forest clearing,
where a troupe of tumbling players will regale a mystical adventure.
The production runs from December 8, 2004, to January 8, 2005.
Curtain up at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £12, £10 equity members & £8
concessions.
