BFI IMAX to host After Dark Zombie All-Nighter
Story by Jack Foley
LOOKING for something different to do kickstart January (2008)? Then come and scare yourself senseless at the BFI IMAX After Dark Zombie All-Nighter on Saturday, January 19, with four of the best zombie films of recent years!
The evening begins at 11.30pm with Slither, a heady mixture of gross-out body horror, pitch-black humour and B-movie pastiche which proved to be an instant cult hit.
Next is 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic thriller which has become a modern British horror classic, and its sequel 28 Weeks Later which picks up the story six months after the rage virus has annihilated mainland Britain.
The evening (ahem, night) is rounded off with Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright’s rom-zom-com and one of the funniest British films of recent years – which also manages to deliver a fair amount of splatter and some genuine scares. All films will be shown in 35mm, filling about 1/3 of the giant screen.
Into 2008 with BFI IMAX...
The BFI IMAX (in Waterloo, London) opens its next IMAX DMR presentation with Warner Bros. Pictures’ I Am Legend, starring Will Smith and directed by Francis Lawrence, on January 25. This follows the 35mm release (on Boxing Day), but there are still plenty of reasons for seeing it twice (or simply waiting)!
Screening with I Am Legend exclusively in IMAX cinemas will be The Dark Knight Prologue, the six-minute opening sequence of Christopher Nolan’s hugely anticipated sequel to Batman Begins.
This marks the world premiere of the first footage ever shot with extremely high resolution IMAX cameras for a major motion picture release, and will fill the entire screen.
Nolan filmed a number of sequences in IMAX which will be revealed when The Dark Knight opens on July 25.
Also coming in early 2008 is the Pirates of the Caribbean After Dark All-Nighter, which has been confirmed for Saturday, February 23, when all three of the record-breaking blockbuster movies will be shown back-to-back – with breaks for rum, some keel-hauling and the odd sea-shanty, of course!
