Borat - Preview

Borat

Preview by Jack Foley

THIS could well be the year of Sacha Baron Cohen. The former Ali G has already had US audiences in stitches in Talladega Nights (opening here shortly) and has Borat still to come.

The film follows the fortunes of another of his popular TV alter-egos, Boratm the Kazakhstani reporter prone to saying just about everything he shouldn’t and offending everyone in the process!

For the film, Borat will be seen travelling to America to film a documentary, falling in love with Pamela Anderson after seeing her on Baywatch and trekking across the country to meet and marry her.

From its outrageous trailers alone, the scene looks set for much mischief-making and a bucket-load of totally un-PC observations.

His take on Pammie Anderson has already had people rolling around the preview aisles: “She have legs that is more wide at the top than at bottom and lovely white teeths that are grow only on the inside of her mouth.

“Also, she obvious have much milk in her tit for feed her children and husband.”

Borat was previewed at this year’s Cannes Film Festivals were Cohen memorably (or not so!) sported a teensy, lime-green swimsuit that left very little to the imagination.

It did, however, draw the required response from critics, many of whom hailed it as the funniest film of the year.

It’s written by the people who created the character for TV and directed by Larry Charles (of Masked and Anonymous fame).

Whether audiences will take to his offbeat humour, crude language and misogynist views remains to be seen, though, as the film is likely to offend as many people as it pleases.

If you’re a fan of Cohen, however, this could be the film that really cements his reputation as a British comedy genius – especially off the back of his equally memorable turn in Talladega Nights.

Audiences can judge for themselves when Borat opens on November 3.
