Kendrick Lamar to headline BST Hyde Park (2020)

Story by Jack Foley

PULITZER Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar is to headline the BST Hyde Park festival in July.

The star will play in London on Sunday, July 5, supported by James Blake and Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard.

The rapper is currently finishing a follow-up to 2017’s multi-award-winning album Damn and has already promised to give his British fans a taste of his new “rock” album.

His previous album saw Lamar question his motivations, contradictions and failings against the backdrop of political and cultural turmoil in America. It earned him five Grammys and the Pulitzer Prize for music – the latter of which saw him become the first non-classical or jazz artist to do so.

Organisers of the award praised how his ‘affecting vignettes’ captured ‘the complexity of modern African-American life’.

Lamar joins a BST line-up that already includes Taylor Swift on July 11 as well as Pearl Jam (July 10) and Little Mix (July 4).

Tickets for Lamar’s date will go on sale from 10am on Friday, January 24.
