Story: Jack Foley
AFTER securing a Top 5 hit with her debut single, Pieces
Of Me, Ashlee released her follow-up, LaLa, on January
17 through A&M Records.
Taken from her debut album Autobiography, which has
now sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, LaLa is a tongue-in-cheek
song about sexual fantasies, with Ashlee role-playing as an alley
cat and a French maid.
"There’s a lot of sarcasm in that song, it’s
also very flirty and sexy," says Ashlee.
"It’s something every girl thinks about, so I decided
to make a joke about it. It’s one of the songs you can dance
around to."
Like all the songs on the album, LaLa reflects the eye-opening
discoveries that come with young adulthood, including first love
and first heartbreak, identity and sexual awakening.

For the first time in a while, Ashlee
has been able to sit back and reflect on the album calling the
experience ‘therapeutic’.
She adds: "Anything I held on my shoulders, I got to put
it out there. It enabled me to find out who I am, to discover
my identity in the world."
The past six months have been phenomenal for Ashlee and 2005
looks set to be an even bigger year, with the release of her first
movie Wannabe, which she’s currently filming in LA, a second
season of her reality MTV show confirmed and the start of her
US tour in January.
