Franz Ferdinand to play charity gig for Darfur orphans

Story: Jack Foley

FRANZ Ferdinand have confirmed that they will play at a charity concert in aid of Darfur's refugees.

The Refugee Voices For Darfur Concert has been sponsored by the United Nations and will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on December 8.

The Glaswegian rockers, who won this year's Mercury Music Prize, will appear via a video link from Mexico City, where they are currently on tour.

Celebrities including Lemar, Chrissie Hynde and Mick Hucknall will also be at the gig performing the songs of Cole Porter, backed by the Royal Philhamonic Concert Orchestra.

In what is proving to be a busy end of year for Franz Ferdinand, the band will also release their first download-only single on Monday, November 15.

This FFFire is a re-recorded version of the album track, which will also be available as a remix by Playground's Trevor Jackson.
