Story: Jack Foley
THE Mars Volta are set to unveil their new single, The Widow,
as
a download-only exclusive through iTunes on Tuesday, February
8.
The Widow is the first new material from Omar Rodriguez-Lopez
and Cedric Bixler-Zavalas since their 2003 debut album, De-Loused
In the Comatorium.
It is a suitably intriguing introduction to the intoxicating
world of Frances The Mute, an album due for release on
Universal/ Island on February 21, 2005.

The Mars Volta is neither a concept
album band nor a prog band. Sure, they excel at both, but Omar
and Cedric formed The Mars Volta in 2001 in order to dispose of
labels and limitations of any kind, to move beyond genres strip-mined
into obsolescence--be they dinosaur prog or 2-D punk.
The Widow's accompanying video was created and directed
by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez himself.
The Mars Volta are: Cedric Bixler Zavala (Vocals); Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez
(Guitars); Jon Theodore (Drums); Juan Alderete (Bass); Ikey Isiah
Owens (Keys); Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (Percussion).
To support the forthcoming releases The Mars Volta will be playing
a number of UK dates in March.
