Oasis, Finsbury Park - Saturday, July 6, 2002 - THE FANS REACT:

INDIELONDON'S Jack Foley claimed Oasis disappointed at Finsbury Park, but others have been quick to disagree. Here is a selection of the comments we have received...

'OASIS at Finsbury Park, which at first glance... not a great venue, but in hindsight!! give a shit, cos the bands were quality. BRMC played an unimaginably better and louder set than Glasto... The Charlatans pulled out the sing-a-longs to put everyone in the right mood, the rain held off and the beer was COLD!!!!

Right... I have seen oasis 4 times now...1) Earls Court '97. 2) Knebworth '96. 3) Wembley '00. 4) Finsbury Park... and they blew me away... again. An Oasis gig is something to be experienced at ear bleeding volume (which it wasn't quite!) with a sea of baked beans on toast jumping up and down all around you, grown men singing word for word the up's and downs of everyone's lifes, "you've gotta be in it to win it", so any TWAT that thinks Oasis are static and old hat are cynical, boring wankers that are too narrow-minded to enjoy the reality of an average bunch of lads representing the majority of the country....

Sorry to rant... but... The whole thing just swept you up, bounced you around, and then threw you down a little drained, drenched and with a grin ear to ear. (As the guys I went Kie, Toby and Charlie will testify) Liam's new tunes are the way forward, the rest are growers just like Definetly Maybe's used to be.

Stop Crying Your Heart Out does not sound like Slide Away, it's just that people need to say 'oh yeah that just sounds like'. Rant over... Born on a Different Cloud is probably the best vocal ever and just sends shivers down your back and Better Man... well, if ever there was a song to define the swagger, that is it!!!!

Songbird... simple, effective and a classic!! And as for the bottle and water/beer throwing... bothered!! It happens everywhere, if you wanna stay dry at a gig, go watch Westlife... LIVE FOREVER'

Other comments: Lucy Hayes, an indielondon contributor, was also at the gig and had this to say... 'I liked your Charlies review and thought your Oasis review was funny. Definitely agree about the pillpoppin', bottle-chuckin, shuvin tossers! Though, guess you do get that at most festivals. Where me and Sarah were, we could hear old Noel 'n' Liam, and the tracks Aquiesce, Columbia and Little By Little were wicked!
"All in all, I loved it! Knebworth was amazing, though, as that was the first time I saw them and right near the front!'

Rob Lord agreed that Oasis were disappointing, although our review was a 'little too harsh', but The Charlatans rocked and 'blew Oasis away'. 'Your review of The Charlatans got it spot on and couldn't be faulted,' he added.

Paul White, an Indielondon critic, also agreed that Oasis sucked on the day and felt the review was fully justified. Once again, he heaped praise on the Charlies.

And someone who wished to remain anonymous (so will resist the urge to publish their email address!!!), hit back with, simply, 'I'm no cunt!'.
