Story: Jack Foley
THE Pussycat Dolls debut single, Don’t Cha, is
released on September 5, 2005, and looks set to become one of
the hottest breakthrough tracks of the year.
The track was produced by Cee-Lo from Goodie Mob and features
Busta Rhymes on guest vocals.
But who are The Pussycat Dolls?
Straight outta LA, these six girls are comprised of Nicole,
Carmit, Melody, Jessica, Ashley and Kimberley.
They got together late in 2003 when the original Pussycat Doll,
Robin Antin, decided to get a girl group who would take the music
industry by storm.
And they started big. One of the Pussycat Dolls’ first
live shows was with Marc Almond for the Fashion Rocks event at
the end of last year - they performed a sensational reworking
of Tainted Love.

In April, Pussycat Dolls opened their
own lounge in Las Vegas. They were introduced on stage by Eva
(Desperate Housewives) Longoria, while Mary J Blige and Dr.Dre
were among the A-listers watching the girls do their thing on
stage.
The Pussycat Dolls are currently hard at work on their debut
album with a stellar list of producers including Timbaland, Rich
Harrison and Ron Fair.
The as-yet-untitled album is scheduled for release this autumn.
"We’ve been working on the album for a while now because
we’ve been very selective with our songs and our producers,"
says Nicole.
"The whole Pussycat Doll thing is a movement, a concept
and a thing unto itself. We want the music to be special too."
And don't let the provocative lyrics and dancing in Don't
Cha mislead you - the Pussycat Dolls are all about female
empowerment.
"It’s all about being who you are, having fun and
being confident… and feeling hot," adds Nicole.
The video was filmed by acclaimed director Paul Hunter [Jennifer
Lopez/Mariah Carey] sees the girls run riot in their unique style
combining traditional 30s glamour with rock’n’roll
and couture.
