Reading Festival 2005 line-up announced

Story: Jack Foley

THE Carling Weekend Reading and Leeds Festival returns in 2005 with three rock giants confirmed to headline - namely, the Foo Fighters, The Pixies and Iron Maiden.

All three bands will grace the twin sites of Richfield Avenue, in Reading, and Bramham Park, in Leeds, between August 26 and 28.

Foo Fighters's UK appearance will coincide with the release of their latest album, In Your Honor, while Pixies will be looking to maintain the momentum they generated from last year's successful comeback.

Iron Maiden, meanwhile, have promised to play the same set they played at their last Reading appearance 23 years ago, which was comprised solely from their first four albums.

Joining the Foo Fighters on the main stage (Saturday at Reading; Sunday at Leeds) will be Kings Of Leon, Razorlight, The Charlatans and Jimmy Eat World, while the second stage will feature sets from The Tears, The Arcade Fire and Babyshambles.

Pixies (Friday at Reading; Saturday at Leeds) will be joined by The Killers, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Coral and Elbow, while the second stage will play host to Kasabian and the only UK festival performance from the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

And opening at Leeds and closing Reading (Sunday at Reading; Friday at Leeds) will be Iron Maiden alongside Marilyn Manson, Incubus, Iggy And The Stooges and NOFX.

The second stage will feature the indie likes of Bloc Party and The Futureheads.

Further acts for the main and second stages, as well as the dance and Concrete Jungle Stage, have yet to be announced. But tickers are now on sale.
