LONDON'S finest alternative radio station, Xfm, is pulling out
all the stops to celebrate Christmas 2004, bringing together the
year’s hottest acts to stage the station’s biggest-ever
live gig.
Xfm’s Winter Wonderland will light up
The Carling Hammersmith Apollo, in London, on Sunday, December
5, with proceeds going to the homelessness charity Shelter.
The event will be hosted by Xfm DJs including Christian O’Connell,
Lauren Laverne, Jimmy Carr and Richard Bacon, among others, and
will feature some of the hottest acts of the year, including Embrace,
Kasabian, The Departure, The Zutons
and Razorlight (with more to be announced).
The event will also be broadcast live on the station with exclusive
backstage interviews.
Opening the whole event will be the winners of Christian O’Connell’s
Rock School, following a month-long search on the breakfast show
to find the best school rock band in the UK.
Xfm’s Winter Wonderland follows the success of Xfm’s
Winter Warmer at the Astoria last year, which raised thousands
of pounds for Shelter.
It’s hoped this year’s event will be even bigger
and better than last year, raising even more money for Shelter
to help them improve the lives of homeless people right across
the country.

Xfm’s Winter Wonderland is
the culmination of another amazing year for live music on Xfm.
Listeners have already been treated to hundreds of exclusive
live sessions – and signing the studio visitors book over
the last twelve months have been some of the biggest rock and
roll names in world including Noel Gallagher, REM and Elvis Costello.
Xfm’s Programme Controller, Andy Ashton, said: "Xfm
has a long history of providing the most exciting nights out for
its listeners. Our strong relationships with the bands and record
companies help bring these things together and we hope that year
on year this event will build into a real calendar highlight.
"We'd like to thank all the people who have come on board
so far to help us make this event such a fantastic prospect and
look forward to providing our fans not only with a brilliant event
but great live coverage on Xfm too."
Director of Shelter, Adam Sampson, added: "Over a million
children throughout Britain will be waking up this Christmas in
housing that most of us would struggle to call home.
"The grim reality of overcrowded or unfit housing, run down
estates or emergency accommodation is that it wrecks people’s
lives and that’s why we are hugely grateful to Xfm for putting
on Xfm’s Winter Wonderland to help us campaign to end bad
housing for the next generation of children."
Tickets are on sale now at £20 and are available via the
