ACTOR Kevin Spacey looks set to return to the West End next year after agreeing to star in two plays and to direct a third at the Old Vic, of which he is a board member.
Spacey wowed London audiences four years ago when he appeared at the Almeida
Theatre in The Iceman Cometh (pictured above, which I was lucky enough
to see!) and is a firm favourite among London's theatre-goers.
The star, best known for roles in movies such as Se7en,
The Usual Suspects and, more recently, The
Shipping News, is, according to Sally Greene, executive director of the
Old Vic Theatre Fund, 'putting a lot of time aside to work here in 2003'.
Ms Greene went on to reveal that one of the three plays will be a contemporary
piece, 'a new play - which is very exciting', while the remaining two will
be classics. He has decided to direct one of the works to conserve his energy.
"I think south of the river is going to be a very exciting place to be
next year," Ms Greene told a national newspaper recently.
While no quotes have yet been obtained from Spacey himself, the star is known
to be very keen on settling in London. He has recently been in the capital
to promote The Shipping News and to raise money for the Old Vic.
Other ties to the area include Battersea Dogs' Home where one of his two dogs,
a Jack Russell named Mini, was found after being rescued.
He is often spotted at restaurants such as L'Escargot and Teatro. Keep clicking
for further updates on Spacey's return.
