Natalie Portman for Aronofsky’s Black Swan
Story by Jack Foley
NATALIE Portman looks set to star in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, a supernatural thriller that focuses on a veteran ballerina.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the idea for the film has been bouncing around the studios since early 2007, but has now been re-written by Mark Heyman and put into turnaround by Universal – which means that rival studios can now take up the option on it.
Portman would play a professional ballerina who finds herself competing with a rival dancer ahead of a big performance, with the stakes and twists increasing as the event draws closer.
It’s unclear, however, whether her rival is a supernatural apparition or a figment of her imagination.
The Hollywood Reporter has pitched it as a spine-tingling drama with elements of The Others. Shooting could begin later this year if a new distributor is found.
