Robert Downey Jr and Jon Favreau eye Cowboys & Aliens

FRESH from completing Iron Man 2 together, Robert Downey Jr and director Jon Favreau may unite again for an adaptation of graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens.
The film, set in the Old West, follows a feuding set of cowboys and Indians in Arizona as they are forced to put aside their differences and team up against an alien enemy with superior technology once a spaceship crash lands in their territory.
Cowboys & Aliens is based on a graphic novel by Platinum Studios Comics. It was written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley and is being adapted for the big screen by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindeloff, the trio behind Star Trek 2.
Variety reports that a summer 2010 start date has been provisionally set with Downey Jr and Favreau keen to take on the project before work begins on Iron Man 3.
