Disney's Aladdin - full casting announced

FULL casting has been announced for Disney’s new Broadway musical Aladdin, which opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, following preview performances from Friday, May 27.

Joining previously announced Trevor Dion Nicholas, who will be making his West End debut reprising his role as the Genie, will be Dean John-Wilson as Aladdin and former Sugababe Jade Ewen as Jasmine.

Since appearing in Britain’s Got Talent in 2008, Dean John-Wilson has appeared in the UK tour of Sister Act, Songs For a New World and the National Theatre’s critically acclaimed production Here Lies Love.

Jade Ewen’s theatre work includes The Lion King, Whistle Down The Wind and most recently, In The Heights.

They will be joined by Don Gallagher (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Sweeney Todd) as Jafar; Peter Howe (originator of the role of Michael Wormwood in Matilda The Musical) as Iago; Irvine Iqbal (Bend It Like Beckham) as Sultan; Nathan Amzi (In The Heights) as Babkak; Rachid Sabitri (Romeo and Juliet) as Omar; and Stephen Rahman-Hughes (Rock of Ages UK tour) as Kassim.

Completing the line up will be Arran Anzani-Jones, Miles Barrow, Albey Brookes, Lauren Chia, Bianca Cordice, Leon Craig, Daniel de Bourg, Seng Henk Goh, Melanie Elizabeth, Kade Ferraiolo, Michelle Chantelle Hopewell, Fred Johanson, Mitch Leow, Oliver Lidert, Thierry Picaut, Alex Pinder, Briony Scarlett, Kyle Seeley, Sadie-Jean Shirley, Ricardo Spriggs, Katie Singh, Dawnita Smith, Marsha Songcome, Kayleigh Thadani and Jermaine Woods.

Adapted for the stage from the 1992 Disney film, Aladdin tells the story of a young street urchin who frees a genie from a lamp and finds his wishes granted. However, he soon discovers that the evil Jafar has other plans for the lamp – and for Princess Jasmine. But can Aladdin save Princess Jasmine and his love for her after she sees that he isn’t quite what he appears to be?
