Kinesis aim to shoot high in the album charts

Story: Jack Foley

KINESIS followed a year of hectic touring with the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Hundred Reasons and Hell is for Heroes, alongside two headline tours, with the release of their debut LP, Handshakes for Bullets, on September 29.

Recorded throughout the end of 2002 and the spring of 2003 with Dave Eringa between tours, the LP contains the Lamacq and XFM favourites Billboard Beauty and …And They Obey.

The LP also contains the now deleted early single, Everything Destroys Itself, and recent single, Forever Reeling.

In three years, Kinesis have gone from school friends self-releasing a debut mini LP from guitarist Conor's bedroom, to one of the brightest new prospects for British rock.

Drawing on their experiences in home town, Bolton, the foursome made a conscious decision to politicise their lyrics in response to what they saw as a moribund, star-obsessed pop culture.

They also made a conscious decision to entertain, leading to a fearsome live reputation and a growing army of travelling fans.

The NME has gone so far as to describe them as 'the Perfect Rock Band'.

A recent home town show at Manchester’s Roadhouse amply demonstrated the dedication of the fanbase.

As a thank you gesture to the fans the band offered free entry to anyone wearing a white T-shirt with the result being a full venue within 20 minutes of the doors opening, fans travelling from the South Coast and Scotland to make the show.

Heralded by Kerrang! as 'a fearsomely effective cocktail of rage and poise', and seen by the NME as 'potentially more important than any other band in the country', Handshakes for Bullets is a summation of the promise and potential of Kinesis.

Further tracks include the live favourite, Conveyor Belt Destruction, to the last song to be recorded for the LP, Generation Devoid of Inspiration.

The album is being hailed by the band itself as 'a strident mission statement from four young men who believe that music can change opinions, motivate dissent and be the most important thing in your life'.

Kinesis recently played their debut Japanese shows at the Fuji Rock festival, before returning to the UK to take to the Radio One Stage at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Further UK dates will be announced shortly.
