Hot Fuzz enjoys biggest opening box office of year

HOT Fuzz, the new film from the team behind Shaun of the Dead, has had the biggest opening box office of 2007 so far.

Since opening on Valentines Day, British audiences have been flocking to see the action comedy, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

The film took £5,913,144 over the weekend (including previews on February 14 and 15) to become Universal Pictures International UK’s fifth biggest box office opening to date and Working Title’s third biggest box office opening after Love Actually and Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge of Reason.

It is also the UK’s fifth biggest comedy opening weekend box office to date.

Released at 427 theatres across the UK and Ireland, Hot Fuzz grossed £5,913,144 over the weekend, including paid previews of £1,553,330.

The opening weekend positions the film at No. 1 in the UK Top 10 ahead of Charlotte’s Web and Music & Lyrics.

Hot Fuzz was released by Universal Pictures International UK and Eire across the UK and Ireland on Friday 16th February 2007.

It’s directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Pegg, and it boasts a stellar British cast including Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton, Edward Woodward, Rafe Spall, Paddy Considine, Billie Whitelaw, Bill Nighy and Martin Freeman.
