Story: Jack Foley
COLDPLAY are to headline Glastonbury 2005 in what will be their
only UK festival appearance of the summer.
They will be joined by the likes of The White Stripes and New
Order for the three-day event, which which runs from June 24-26,
2005.
Needless to say, all 112,000 tickets for the event sold out in
less than three hours - before the line-up was even confirmed.
The announcement of the full bill for this year's festival does,
however, mark an uncharacteristic move for the organisers, coming
a full two months earlier than the usual early-June reveal date.
Only the day on which each act will appear is yet to be confirmed,
although the big two would be The White Stripes (Friday, Pyramid
Stage headliner), and Coldplay (Saturday, Pyramid Stage headliner).
Please note, that Kylie Minogue, who was due to headline on Sunday,
has had to cancel her shows having been diagnosed with breast
cancer.
Joining them on the Pyramid Stage will be The Killers, Doves,
New Order, Goldie Lookin' Chain, The Coral, Ash, former Beach
Boy Brian Wilson and The Kaiser Chiefs.
While on the Other Stage, the line-up includes Razorlight, Ian
Brown, Kasabian, Fatboy Slim, Royksop, Bloc Party and Interpol.
The Bravery, Tom Vek, Rufus Wainwright, The Futureheads, Athlete,
Hot Hot Heat and Echo And The Bunnymen are also confirmed to appear.
On the newly-named John Peel Stage, meanwhile, bands including
The Tears, Bright Eyes, The Go! Team, Willy Mason, Rilo Kiley
and Art Brut will make up the line-up.
This year's festival will also see the creation of several new
stages including two new East and West Coast Dance Tents and the
G Stage (formerly The Glade).
