Trüby Trio finally present their debut album

Story: Jack Foley

AFTER several 12" releases on Compost Records, plenty of great remix works and the DJ-Kicks (K7 Records) compilation, the Trüby Trio finally present their debut album, Elevator Music, on Compost Records.

The Trio was founded in 1997 by Rainer Trüby, Roland Appel & Christian Prommer.

Since the very beginning they have played in the Champions League of the dance business, as they brought different flavours like Brazil, Latin and even Disco music together, thereby creating a completely new dance genre.

Their remix work includes tracks for artists such as Turntable Rocker, Nitin Sawhney, Peace Orchestra, Bebel Gilberto, Klaus Doldinger and Frederic Galliano.

In 2001, they reached another milestone, being asked to contribute their favourite tunes for the DJ-Kicks series, for which they also toured the world, where they were able to pick up all sorts of different cultural and musical influences for their inspiration, and, finally, they were able to work on a full-length album project.

Their next tune, A Go Go, was on the second 12" release (CPT 058) and made it onto the soundtrack score of the movie, Anatomie, featuring actress, Franka Potente (The Borne Identity, Run Lola Run).

The hit was also recently used for the United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) charity spot, The Most Beautiful Gesture, featuring soccer pros Ronaldo and Zidane.

The spot was broadcasted on various TV channels wordwide.

Their album, Elevator Music, features guest appearances from Joseph Malik, Marcus Begg, Wunmi, and Concha Buika, among others.

The Trio will be touring the world as DJs and also perform live at several special occasions, presenting their album.

About the boys:

Christian Prommer, Roland Appel and Rainer Trüby are part of the Compost family.

Roland and Chris are famous for their Fauna Flash (Aquarius, Fusion, Confusion) releases as well as for their Voom : Voom project, together with Vienna mastermind, Peter Kruder.

As few people might know, Christian and Roland are both drummers, and used to play in competing Munich school-bands, later they both worked as professional musicians for various studio jobs, before they finally joined forces.

Rainer was a member of Compost act, A Forest Mighty Black, and also made a name for himself as a superb compiler, as he did compilations for Nuphonic (Root Down 99), Talkin Loud (Talkin Jazz 3, with Gilles Peterson), and, of course, for Compost Records - the Brazilian flavoured Glücklich series (Vol. 1 - 5).

About some of the guests

Don 'Kills Me, Chris!' Freeman: The Trio occasionally met him in Los Angeles where they asked him to be part of the album process. In the past, Don was keyboard player at the legendary Sister Sledge (during the Muhammed Ali Film- Tour in Africa), and he also played with Astrud Gilberto, Stanley Clarke, Patti LaBelle and all the other heroes we admire. At the moment he works with the West-London collective.

Wunmi: She already lent her voice to Masters At Work (Tribute, Ekabo) and Bugz In The Attic (Zombie, which can be found on the Tribute to Fela Kuti - Red, Hot & Blue compilation). Moreover she was dancer at the legendary London soul outfit, Soul II Soul, and even ended up being the model for their "Club Classics Vol.1" album cover. She is working on her own debut album.

Michi Mettke: The young, talented keyboard and guitar player had his first studio job ever on the track "Galicia", the first Trio 12". From this time on he became the secret weapon of the Trio. At the moment he is working as member of Beanfield on the new album.

Joseph Malik: The Scottish singer/songwriter came along with his brilliant debut album, Diverse (Compost Records), in 2002. Malik already worked with the Trio on "High Jazz", their track for the DJ-Kicks compilation.
