Gemma Arterton to play Tamara Drewe
Story by Jack Foley
GEMMA Arterton is to star as gorgeous comic strip character Tamara Drewe in a new adaptation by Stephen Frears.
Based on a series of graphic novels by Posy Simmonds, which were inspired by Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd, the film will find the former Bond girl playing a newspaper columnist whose recent nose job helps to transform her into a seductive beauty.
She subsequently causes plenty of controversy when she returns to the rural home she grew up in.
Empire Online reports that Frears’ movie is due to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios on September 21 with a cast that also includes Mamma Mia’s Dominic Cooper, The Queen’s Roger Allam and TV comedienne Tamsin Greig.
Arterton has recently completed work on two of next year’s blockbusters: Price of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans.
