Halle Berry shines at Things We Lost In The Fire premiere
Story by Jack Foley
OSCAR winning actress Halle Berry attended the UK premiere of her latest film, Things We Lost In The Fire, just hours after London’s Leicester Square had been closed off due to a fire in a restaurant.
The pregnant star, looking luminous in a blue dress, chatted with fans, posed for photos and signed autographs for more than half an hour at the latest Gala screening of the 51st London Film Festival.
She was joined by the film’s producer, Sam Mendes, and its director, Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, who is making her Hollywood debut with the film.
Things We Lost In The Fire finds Berry as a mother coming to terms with the sudden death of her husband (played in flashback by David Duchovny), who reaches out to her deceased’s best friend (Benicio Del Toro), a recovering drug addict she has never approved of.
It’s an emotionally compelling film that has already provoked strong Oscar buzz for both Berry (who last won for Monster’s Ball) and Del Toro.
Needless to say, Berry’s presence at the premiere prompted many questions about impending motherhood and she described being pregnant as “fantastic”.
“I knew from playing a mother in this movie that I was meant to be a mother,” she also revealed.
Another issue to emerge given the name of the film was the fires sweeping California, which the 41-year-old star admitted to being extremely nervous about at a press conference earlier in the day. Her own home is a mile from the blazes and she has furiously been keeping abreast of the situation while in the UK.
“It’s frightening – I live in Malibu, so I’m worried about my neighbours, my friends, people who live close to me, my very own property,” she told reporterss. “It’s scary, it’s mother nature and she’s angry.”
Things We Lost in the Fire opens in UK cinemas in January.
