Mission: Impossible IV set for 2011 release?
Story by Jack Foley
TOM Cruise and JJ Abrams have agreed to produce a fourth Mission: Impossible movie with a view to releasing it in 2011.
Rumours of the franchise revival first broke last week when Abrams was quoted in American TV Guide as saying that the team behind Mission: Impossible III had come up with “a really cool idea”.
But Variety has since confirmed that Mission Impossible IV is now in the development stage and that Cruise has been welcomed back to Paramount for the first time since parting company with them last year.
As usual, plot details will be kept under wraps and it’s not clear whether Abrams will direct as well as produce.
But the project will follow Cruise’s next star vehicle alongside Cameron Diaz in a film formerly known as Wichita, and Abrams’ Star Trek sequel.
