Robert Zemeckis bids to refloat Yellow Submarine movie
Story by Jack Foley
ROBERT Zemeckis is planning to remake Beatles movie The Yellow Submarine.
If successful, the filmmaker intends to use the same performance-capture 3-D digital production format he recently used for his remake of A Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carrey.
Variety reports that the deal involves complex rights issues, as Zemeckis intends to use 16 original Beatles songs for the project. It is hoped the film will be ready to premiere around the 2012 Summer Olympics, which begins in London on 27 July.
The plot of the psychedelic original took place in Pepperland, an undersea paradise protected by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
When the Beatles are captured by the music-hating Blue Meanies, a soldier is sent to Liverpool to fetch them using the submarine to save the day.
