The Final Destination beats Halloween 2 in US

The Final Destination

Story by Jack Foley

THE fourth film in the Final Destination franchise has debuted at the top of the US box office, comfortably beating closest horror rival Halloween 2.

The Final Destination took at estimated $28.3 million to register the best ever opening figures for the franchise. It easily beat Rob Zombie’s second stab at Halloween, which grossed an estimated $17.4 million.

However, distributor The Weinstein Company insists it remains pleased with the performance of Halloween 2 and has already greenlit a third film, which will follow in 3D.

The Final Destination’s success was largely attributed to the decision to make it a 3D release, which added to the gross out factor surrounding the gory deaths.

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds continued to perform well at the US box office, adding a further $20 million in its second week and slipping to second spot, but Ang Lee’s new movie Taking Woodstock under-performed with just $3.7 million.
