The Three Musketeers set for 3D revival

The Three Musketeers

Story by Jack Foley

THE Three Musketeers are set for more swashbuckling adventures, only this time in 3D.

Paul WS Anderson, the man behind the Resident Evil franchise and Alien Vs Predator, is bringing Alexandre Dumas’ classic tale back to the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Three Musketeers follows the fortunes of a young man named d’Artagnan as he sets out to become a member of the French king’s royal household, only to make friends with three of the force’s best members: Athos, Porthos and Aramis. The four subsequently unite to stop a plot against the throne.

Anderson aims to give the new adventure a more contemporary feel but will retain the period setting.

He said: “We are definitely modernizing The Three Musketeers without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece. But in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take centre-stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.”

There’s no word on casting as yet but Anderson aims to start shooting in Germany and France next year with a view to being ready for release by 2011.

The most recent incarnation of The Three Musketeers was released by Disney and starred Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Chris O’Donnell and Oliver Platt.
