Mission Impossible III: Cruise wows fans at UK premiere

Tom Cruise at the London premiere of Mission Impossible III

Story by Jack Foley

IT MAY have seemed like a mission impossible a week ago but proud new father Tom Cruise wowed fans at the London premiere of his latest movie, Mission Impossible III on Tuesday night (April 25, 2006).

The Hollywood star only decided to make the trip to London following the Rome premiere on Monday night but showed he had lost none of his enthusiasm for spending time with his fans.

Cruise spent an estimated two and a half hours on the red carpet chatting to fans, signing autographs, receiving messages of congratulations and speaking on mobile phones.

He then disappeared inside the cinema to introduce his film but re-appeared to the delight of fans to continue meeting and greeting them – spending a total of four hours in their company.

According to some reports, he even had to contend with one mother asking him to hold her new baby, while a young girl was reportedly pushed in front of the barriers and received an impromptu chat.

A pensioner celebrating her 80th birthday was even treated to a kiss on the cheek from the jovial 43-year-old.

Assembled journalists bustled for position as they tried to ask the film star about fatherhood and whether he missed new daughter, Suri, to which he candidly replied: “How can you not? She’s beautiful.”

The UK premiere of Mission Impossible III followed the Rome premiere last night and is followed by a Paris screening on Wednesday.

Of the film’s many stars, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ and Simon Pegg were also in attendance.

The film opens in UK cinemas on Thursday, May 4 – one day ahead of its US release on May 5. It is directed by Lost creator, JJ Abrams and is expected to be one of the biggest hits of the summer.
