MATT Damon has stated that he would be interested in playing Jason Bourne again – but only if director Paul Greengrass returned as well.

Speaking at a London press conference on the eve of the UK premiere of The Bourne Ultimatum, the star said a case could be made for him returning, so long as Greengrass did.

The director, for his part, insisted that it was for audiences to decide whether the story had ended and ruled out any return to the franchise for at least two years.

“I remember at the end of Supremacy you could just feel people coming out of the theatres wanting another one,” he recalled. “You could just feel it in the audience and they’re the people who should decide that – not me or the studio or anybody else.”

A rainswept Leicester Square played host to the UK premiere of The Bourne Ultimatum and attracted scores of fans, as well as a fair number of celebrities.

Joining Damon and Greengrass from the No.1 movie itself were co-stars including Paddy Considine, Joan Allen and Julia Stiles, while the likes of James Nesbitt, Rachel Stevens and Stephen Fry were also in attendance.

Singer Prince also took a little time out from his London concert series to catch up with his favourite spy movie franchise.

The Bourne Ultimatum, which opens in UK cinemas today (August 16) follows the ongoing fortunes of amnesia ridden spy Jason Bourne as he continues to find the answers surrounding his identity.

The action takes him from London’s Waterloo Station to Spain, Tangier and eventually New York. It includes several breathtaking set pieces, including another memorable hand-to-hand combat sequence and a stunning car chase through the streets of New York.

The film took in excess of $70 million during its opening weekend in the States, beating the opening figures of the previous two films. It was also critically-acclaimed, with many journalists hailing it to be an instant classic, better than its predecessors and hands down the best three-quel of the summer.
